Program Information
Time | Program | Brief Introduction |
Session One July 25-30 | Social Entrepreneurship | The Social Entrepreneurship program is powered by DKU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative. It provides a project-based learning experience connecting the classroom to the real world and leverages students’ creative problem-solving capabilities, interdisciplinary thinking, and an entrepreneurial mindset. The program aims to inspire and equip young talents to become change makers through the framework of social entrepreneurship, which addresses the complex social issues involving culture, environment, human, and business. |
Artificial Intelligence (AI) | AI brings both challenge and opportunities to college students from broader areas, including engineering, natural and applied sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. This course provides an opportunity for students to explore AI and apply AI to a variety of use cases. Instead of focusing on the fundamental theories and algorithms of AI, students will gain hands-on experience on the AI open innovation platform provided by Lenovo (“Lenovo Brain”). This course holds a contemporary view of AI and focuses on a variety of emerging applications facilitated by the recent advances on machine learning. After finishing the course, students are expected to be familiar with different AI modules offered by Lenovo Brain.
Healthcare Big Data | Duke Kunshan Healthcare Big Data Summer School is a one-week immersion program broadly introducing undergraduate students to data analytics through a health lens. Hosted by the Global Health Program at Duke Kunshan University, the Healthcare Big Data Summer School welcomes talented rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors intrigued by the applications of big data technologies in the healthcare industry, such as drug discovery, health monitoring, diagnostics, and precision medicine. We aim to stimulate curiosity in the field of big data through this rigorous yet approachable and fun program. By the end of the program, students will not only be equipped with essential techniques for managing and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data but will also be exposed to advanced machine-learning methodologies. Along the way, students will develop a working proficiency in several data analysis tools.
Session Two August 2-6 | Machine Learning | “What is Machine Learning?” would be the fundamental learning objective of the MLSS program. Diagnosing disease, predicting weather events, identifying fraud, personal assistants who anticipate our next desire (Alexa, Siri, Cortana, etc.), we have all heard about the new amazing things machine learning can do, but do you understand how these algorithms work and when we can expect them to work and, perhaps more importantly, when and why they fail? As a data scientist or machine-learning practitioner, you will be asked to explain how your algorithm works when it works and why your algorithm failed when it fails, and there will be times when it fails! We will discuss reasons algorithms may fail in this summer. Upon successful completing of the one-week program, participant will receive a certification of attendance delivered by Duke Kunshan University. |
Policy Analysis with R | Students will be introduced to environmental economics, data analysis (statistics with R), and English academic reading and writing. Through both lectures and practice, students will learn important skills such as data analysis, fundamental theories of microeconomics, and analyzing case studies. Because of its small size, the iMEP Summer Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to get to know each other well, to create lifelong friendships, and to expand their professional network.
Medical Physics & Health Informatics | This summer program is held by the DKU Medical Physics Graduate Program, and all the instructors of the summer program are from this graduate program. In the Medical Physics Graduate Program you will transform your background from physics, engineering, and other sciences into an ability to fight cancer as a medical physicist. You will engage an international environment in classes, clinical experiences, and research projects at DKU in China and Duke University in the U.S. Our graduates have been highly successful gaining employment in hospitals and industry and achieving placement in PhD programs. Chart a course that combines physics and medicine into an engaging and successful career. |
